A 19-year-old Buffalo man has been given a 30-year prison sentence for killing a woman and injuring her friend in a shooting outside a party last Christmas morning.
Authorities say Miguel Torro-Torres was trying to gun down a gang member who had danced with his codefendant’s girlfriend, but fired into the wrong SUV. Eighteen-year-old Sarah Ernst was killed and 19-year-old Brion Collins wounded.
The 16-year-old co-defendant, Anthony Echevarrio, was also sentenced Monday, drawing three and a half years in prison. Erie County Judge Sheila DiTullio says that was the most she could impose because he was a juvenile.
Echevarrio pleaded guilty to manslaughter in August. Torro-Torres pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempted murder a month later.
